Various Notes:
The Rite of Election is for catechumens only. Parishes may celebrate the Rite of Sending Catechumens for Election (for catechumens attending the Rite of Election) and the Rite of Calling Candidates to Continuing Conversion (for candidates not attending the Rite of Election) in the parish.
Check that marriage issues are resolved before you present people at the Rite of Election. This may include checking the marital history of the spouses of candidates and catechumens.
Children who are at the age of reason (and beyond) and are being baptized should attend the Rite of Election but are not required to do so. Additionally, they should receive all the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.
Any parish or collaborative that did not previously receive a free Book of the Elect from the Archdiocese should email Diane Campbell at [email protected] to arrange to receive one.
Please note that optional use of the new Order of Christian Initiation of Adults began on December 1, 2024 and that mandatory use begins on March 5, 2025. Order the English edition here or here and the English and Spanish edition here.
